Hong Kong HR Summit: Increasing Engagement with Strengths

Hong Kong HR Conference | 7 November 2025

On November 7, 2025, Strengths School™ successfully organised its inaugural human resources (HR) conference in Hong Kong, titled “Increasing Engagement with Strengths”.

Held at the JW Marriott Hotel, this invite-only gathering was specifically designed to help HR leaders move past traditional engagement metrics and explore the human science of peak performance.

The theme was simple: when strengths are understood and applied, engagement rises.

The Core Mission: Beyond the Survey Results

For many organisations, employee engagement is often reduced to a static "culture initiative" or an annual "survey result".

Strengths School hosted this summit to offer a more practical and human-centred alternative. The primary goal was to clarify how individual strengths directly fuel engagement and to equip leaders with the strategies needed to build healthier, high-performing workplace cultures over time.

A Distinguished Regional Gathering

Across two intimate sessions (Breakfast and Lunch), the conference brought together 42 senior HR leaders from some of Hong Kong's most influential multinational corporations and organisations.

  • Prominent Attendees: Decision-makers from global powerhouses like Deloitte, Lululemon, and Swire Properties collaborated on regional talent challenges.

  • Expert Facilitation: The sessions were led by Strengths School’s principal coaches, featuring Jason Ho as the main speaker.

What HR Leaders Experienced

The conference was structured as a strengths-based learning experience, moving from abstract theory to real-world workplace application.

1. Individual Discovery & Engagement

HR leaders conducted a deep dive into the fundamental link between an individual's natural talents and their daily motivation.

  • Aligning Roles with Nature: Participants examined how to identify employees' natural strengths and why aligning specific roles with these innate abilities is the most effective way to drive organic engagement.

  • Understanding the "Why": By uncovering the internal drivers of talent, leaders moved their workforce from basic compliance to a state of genuine engagement and commitment to their work.

2. Masterclass in Team Dynamics

A primary focus of the summit was the practical application of strengths in a group setting to optimise team interaction.

  • Reducing Friction: Leaders practised strategies to identify potential conflict points within talent profiles and learned how to turn these differences into collaborative advantages.

  • Utilising Diverse Talents: The masterclass provided frameworks for building high-performing teams by strategically balancing execution-focused talents with strategic-thinking profiles, ensuring a more resilient and versatile organisational structure.

3. Live CliftonStrengths® Demonstration

A woodworking workspace with a pair of hands shaping a small wooden object using a chisel and hammer, with various tools and wood pieces on the workbench.

Moving beyond standard slide presentations, the summit featured a live demonstration to show the framework's real-time utility.

  • Practical Walkthrough: Strengths School’s principal coaches, including the main speaker, facilitated a live "unpacking" session. This showed leaders exactly how to interpret strength data for immediate talent coaching and management.

  • A Living Strategy: The demonstration proved that CliftonStrengths is most effective when used as a "living strategy"—a tool for daily leadership and performance management rather than a static, one-time mechanical assessment.

4. Peer Learning & High-Trust Connection

The summit served as a sanctuary for senior talent architects, moving beyond the usual speaker-audience dynamic to encourage genuine collaboration.

  • Breaking the "Corporate Speak": The intimate, invite-only format of 42 leaders was essential for building psychological safety. This allowed participants to move past standard formalities and engage in high-trust conversations about the real-world obstacles they face within their organisations.

  • Shared Regional Benchmarking: Leaders from diverse MNCs like Swire Properties, Deloitte, and lululemon found common ground in their shared challenges. These sessions allowed for a rare cross-pollination of ideas.

  • Focus on Collective Success: Participants left not just with new knowledge, but with a network of peers committed to a deeper strengths movement in Hong Kong.

Voices from the HR Community

The feedback echoed a common sentiment: the experience was refreshingly new and provided a necessary practical lens on engagement.

"Fantastic session... it highlighted the value of focusing on individual talents to drive collective success. I left energised to apply these ideas within my team."
